Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), formerly the Florida Department of Public Safety, is a state agency of Florida. The agency handles the issuing of drivers licenses and handles the registration and titling of automobiles, boats, and mobile homes. The Florida Highway Patrol, a unit of the DHSMV, assists people involved in car crashes and people whose vehicles break down on state highways.[1] The agency is headquartered in the Neil Kirkman Building in Tallahassee.[2]

In the state of Florida all tag and title issues are handled by the tax collector and all driver licenses are issued by the Division of Drivers License.
